Clyde Alda “Al” Lindsay, 71, of North Port, Fla., formerly of Williamsport, passed away on Monday, March 20,2017. Al was born on June 24,1945, to Clyde Augustus and Marthena Siders Lindsay.

Al met Linda while attending Greenfield High School and they were married on April 9, 1965.

Al attended Indiana State University and worked at General Motors before being hired as a police officer with the Greenfield Indiana Police Department and attending the Indianapolis Police Academy. In 1972, Al joined Indiana State Police (ISP), where he spent most of his career assigned to Warren and Fountain Counties before retiring as a Master Trooper in 1992. Upon his retirement from ISP, Al worked as an Investigator for the Warren County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. In 1994, Al was elected Sheriff of Warren County and served from 1995 – 1998 when he retired and moved to Lynchburg, Tenn. Al and Linda returned to Williamsport in 2001 and stayed until 2012, when they moved to North Port, Fla.

Al was an active member of the Williamsport Christian Church from 1973 until 2014 and continued attending services in North Port, as well and Concordia Place in Chicago, Ill.

Al was always kind and had a contagious smile. He will be remembered by many people in many ways. Al was a loving son and a loving brother. He was a loving husband and father. He was a good friend. He was a good Christian. He was a fair and respected police officer and public servant, to whom he dedicated his entire adult life serving. Al had many accomplishments throughout his life, but when asked, he would always say his best achievement was his family, whom he loved very much.

Al leaves behind a loving wife of 52 years, Linda of North Port, Fla.; children, Aleah (John) Kaip of Chicago, Ill., Tim (Candi) Lindsay of Judyville, Ind. and Doug (Andrea) Lindsay of Chicago, Ill.; a loving sister, Shirley (Jack) Smith of Lenoir City, Tenn.; and a loving brother, Donovan (Karen) Lindsay of Greenfield; seven grandchildren.

Al was proceeded in death by his parents, Clyde and Marthena Lindsay; and a brother Robert Lindsay.

Visitation for Al will be from 9 to 11 a.m., April 8, with a memorial service, to honor Al’s life at Concordia Lutheran Church, 3855 North Seeley Ave., Chicago, EL 60618.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Concordia Lutheran Church.
