The sixth-grade Mt. Vernon boys basketball team won it all at the U.S. Amateur Indiana State Championship in Fishers this month.

The hoops squad, coached by Mike Newton, ran through the bracket with three straight wins to capture the 6A Division championship at Hamilton Southeastern High School.

Mt. Vernon cruised past Fishers Red 32-16 in the opening round before beating Carmel Gold 34-32 in the semifinals March 11. The team completed the sweep March 12 with a 38-31 win against Center Grove White in the title game.

Mt. Vernon also won its own school invitational this season.

The New Palestine Heat also won the U.S. Amateur State Championship in the 6B Division. They defeated Carmel White for the title.
