GREENFIELD — Those leaving their porch light on this Oct. 31 in Greenfield should expect some costumed teens to ring the doorbell — but not for candy.

Greenfield-Central High School’s Student Leadership Academy team has organized a “Treat the Need” food drive for items to be donated to the Hancock County Food Pantry. Junior Aubree Cole, 16, saw her cousin’s school in Ohio organized something similar and decided to bring it to Greenfield.

Student volunteers plan to meet in front of the high school, 810 N. Broadway, at 6:15 p.m., then divide into groups to tackle different Greenfield neighborhoods. They will go door to door seeking canned goods and other nonperishable items the Hancock County Food Pantry accepts; they’ll return to the high school by 8 p.m.

SLA team members have reached out to sports teams and other student activity groups in order to get larger numbers of volunteers. Participants in the event are asked to share photos and posts on social media with the hashtag #GCtreattheneed.
