Football sectional pairing revealed
On Sunday night, the IHSAA conducted its blind draw, determining the sectional pairings for the 2016 football state tournament.
The IHSAA state football tournament begins Friday, Oct. 21, with 320 teams competing in six different classes.
The Class 5A No. 2 New Palestine Dragons drew rival No. 4 Columbus East in the first round of Sectional 14. The two will meet at New Palestine at 7 p.m. Oct. 21.
New Palestine (7-0) has won consecutive games against Columbus East, winning the sectional title 24-14 last year and the semistate championship 30-28 in 2014. Both games were played at Columbus East.
Class 4A Mt. Vernon and Greenfield-Central both will be on the road to open sectional at 7 p.m. Oct. 21. The Marauders (4-3) travel to Richmond (3-4), and the Cougars (4-3) head to Jay County (4-3). Both teams are on opposite sides of the sectional bracket.
Class 2A Eastern Hancock will visit Centerville (2-5) on Oct. 21 for its first-round game in Sectional 38. The Royals are 4-3 on the season and won their most recent sectional in 2014.

Germany’s Dolderer wins Red Bull Air Race
INDIANAPOLIS – Matthias Dolderer will long remember his first visit to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The German won the inaugural Red Bull Air Race at the “Racing Capital of the World” and in doing so also secured the world championship, clocking a time of 1 minute, 3.335 seconds in the final round on Sunday.
Great Britain’s Nigel Lamb was second in a time of 1:04.326, while Canada’s Pete McLeod was third in 1:05.398.

Tickets available for Marauders’ Indy game
On Saturday, the Mt. Vernon football team will face the Shelbyville Golden Bears at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The two Hoosier Heritage Conference rivals will play at 4:45 p.m. in the second of three games.
Presale tickets for the game are available in the Mt. Vernon athletics office. Presale adult tickets are $11 and $8 for students. Children ages 2 and under are admitted for free. Tickets at the door of the game are priced at $15.
