The Class 3A New Palestine volleyball team won its fifth straight match Tuesday night, defeating Morristown 3-0.

The Dragons won 25-6, 25-13, 25-12, led by Allison Dennemann’s 26 kills and nine digs. Kara Morris added 12 digs and 39 assists.

Lydia Jones finished with 14 digs, while Mia Long had 10 kills and nine digs.

“Great team game tonight,” New Palestine head coach Kelli Whitaker said. “We played very well the first set with minimal errors. In the second and third set we mixed up our offense a lot more. It was nice to have everyone get a decent amount of playing time.”

The Dragons are now 18-5 on the season and play today at Hoosier Heritage Conference foe New Castle.

Royals win 3rd straight

The Eastern Hancock boys tennis team collected its third consecutive dual victory Tuesday, defeating Tri 3-2.

The Royals swept all three singles matches. Cameron Alberts finished a perfect 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Duncan Cherry cruised 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, and Corbin Jennings wrapped up No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

Eastern Hancock travels to battle rival Knightstown at 5 p.m. today.

Dragons defeat rival Marauders

The New Palestine Dragons defended their home courts Tuesday night with a 4-1 win against rival Mt. Vernon.

The Dragons won their seventh straight county championship the night prior at home. The dual win improved their season record to 12-3 and 4-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Mt. Vernon (10-4) won at No. 1 doubles in straight sets with Ryan Beck and Sam Frye partnering for the match.

New Palestine’s Matthew True won in three sets at No. 1 singles. Carson Gavin secured No. 2 singles, while Patrick Heffernan took No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-4.

Tyler Swain and Nick Rusche added a win at No. 2 doubles.

Boys soccer

Marauders conquer Warriors

Trailing 2-1 at halftime, the Mt. Vernon boys soccer team flipped the switch to win 5-2 against Covenant Christian on Tuesday night.

The Marauders netted four goals in 25 minutes through the second half to claim their ninth win of the year.

Seth Luke, Drew Heitman, and Matt Schafer each delivered an assist. Jarret Whitehouse and Carson Jones both had two goals.

Jeffrey Boxberger chipped in his first of the season for five total.

Mt. Vernon hosts HHC foe Pendleton Heights tonight.

Girls soccer

Cougars victorious on senior night

The Greenfield-Central girls soccer team celebrated senior night with a 3-2 victory against visiting New Castle on Tuesday night.

The Cougars trailed 1-0 before tying up the match behind a Jaeden Ailes goal late in the first half. Her sister Trystan Ailes was credited for the assist.

The twosome went to work again in the second half, reversing roles as Trystan buried a goal in the back of the net. Reagan Collins converted the game-winner later in the half.

New Castle edged closer with a second-half goal, but the Cougars defense stood its ground to secure the win.

Seniors Jenna Allen, Sydney Burkhart, Collins, Katie Helgason, Coco Helgason, Tiffany Richmond, and Alicia Colson were honored during the game.

The Cougars travel to Shelbyville for a HHC match at 7 p.m. tonight.
