The Mt. Vernon boys tennis team is on cruise control to start the season, improving to a perfect 6-0 after capturing the Muncie Central Invitational on Monday.

The Marauders had to wait two days to celebrate as severe weather delayed the event from Saturday.

Mt. Vernon opened the invitational with a 3-2 win against the host Bearcats on Saturday morning as both doubles teams and Brendan Pratt at No. 3 singles were victorious.

On Monday, Mt. Vernon defeated Blackford and Jay County 5-0 to seize the team title. Pratt finished 3-0 along with No. 1 doubles partners Gavin Stamper and Sam Frye. JD Cohee and Peyton Meadors were 3-0 at No. 2 doubles.

“These guys are believing in our approach this year, scrap and fight and find a way to win,” Mt. Vernon coach Gabe Muterspaugh said. “So proud of Brendan Pratt, a senior who was our MVP at the invite. You never quit on kids, and he has the heart of a lion and our team rallies around him.”
