Children removed from New Palestine home after toddler found wandering neighborhood, unattended

NEW PALESTINE — Two children have been removed from their mother’s care during an investigation after one child was found wandering the neighborhood alone Tuesday.

Officials continue to investigate what happened leading up to the moment a 23-month-old was spotted walking alone in a New Palestine neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, officials say. The child and her 11-month-old sister were placed in the care of a relative Wednesday while the case remained under investigation.

It took police an hour to find the child’s mother, who said the girl must have climbed out of her crib and left the house after being put down for a nap.
