CHARLOTTESVILLE — A child was left alone on a school bus for 30 minutes Tuesday afternoon after the bus driver forgot to drop the student off after school, officials said.

In an email to the Daily Reporter, Eastern Hancock School Corp. superintendent Vicki McGuire said school officials didn’t know the child was left behind until receiving a call from the student’s family saying the child never made it home. She said the school has expressed “sincere apologies for this incident” to the family of the child.

District officials have not released the name of the bus driver or confirmed whether the employee has been disciplined.
