James M. Cary, age 82, of New Palestine, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016, at Community Hospital East. He was born on November 23, 1933, in Burkesville, Ky., as the son of Harrison and Ovie (Philpot) Cary.

He served and drove a tank in the Army during the Korean War from 1953-1955. James married Barbara (Rich) on September 29, 1962, in Tompkinsville, Ky. He worked for Stark and Whetzel for 25 years and retired with Wonder Bread/Interstate Brand where he was a machinist for 30 years. Mr. Cary was a 50 year member of Indianapolis Masonic Lodge #715 and attended Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis.

James is survived by his wife, Barbara Cary of New Palestine; daughter, Jennifer Condrey of Greenfield; grandchildren, Kalynn and Logan Condrey of Greenfield; and six nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison and Ovie Cary; brother, Charles; sisters, Maxine, Minniree and Evelyn; nephew, Dale and niece, Diane.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140 with a Masonic Service being held at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 1, at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
