Softball state tourney draw approaching

The IHSAA will conduct its sectional draw Thursday for the softball state tournament.

The blind draw will begin at 8 a.m. The official pairings will be released on the IHSAA’s website after the pairings have been determined.

The sectional tournament will run from May 23 to 28 with days and times scheduled by each host school.

The second team named in each pairing is the designated home team except when they advance by virtue of a bye. The bye will be home in the semifinal and the visitors in the championship game.

In Class 4A, Greenfield-Central competes in the Pendleton Heights Sectional. The field includes Anderson, Muncie Central, New Castle, Richmond and the host Arabians.

Mt. Vernon participates in the 4A Warren Central Sectional with Indianapolis Tech, Cathedral, Lawrence Central, Lawrence North and the Warriors.

New Palestine will host their own 3A sectional, which includes Brebeuf Jesuit, Herron, Bishop Chatard, Indianapolis Manual and Indianapolis Marshall.

In Class 2A, Eastern Hancock travels to the Triton Central Sectional with Heritage Christian, Broad Ripple, Irvington Prep and the host Tigers.

Admission per sectional session is $6 and $10 for all sessions.

New Palestine physical night set for athletes

New Palestine High School will host its 2016 athletics physical night from 6 to 8 p.m. May 24.

All New Palestine High School and Doe Creek Middle School students participating must have a physical on file to participate in sports for the 2016-17 school year.

The cost for the physicals is $25.

The IHSAA physical form for 2016 has changed. All physicals must be signed by a physician (M.D. or D.O.) and include the physician’s license number at the bottom of the second page.

Signature stamps no longer will be accepted. The updated form is available in the New Palestine athletics office.

Staff Appreciation Night planned at Mt. Vernon

The Mt. Vernon softball program is hosting Staff Appreciation Night on Wednesday.

Staff members are invited to participate in pregame activities at 5 p.m. The varsity team plays Lawrence North at 5:30 p.m.

Bernie Campbell is scheduled to throw out the first pitch. After the game, honorees will have a chance to run the bases and have refreshments with the players.

Track team selling Cougar Value Cards

The Greenfield-Central track and field team is selling the remainder of the Cougar Value Cards for $5 each as a fundraiser for the program.

These cards regularly sell for $10 and are good until Sept. 1. See any track team member or contact ConnieJo Harris to purchase a card while supplies last.

Purchasers are eligible to receive various discounts every time the card is used at any of the following locations: That Fun Place, The Mug, Arby’s, Papa Murphy’s, Ye Olde Head Shoppe Salon & Spa, McCleerey’s Sporting Goods, Orange Leaf, Two Sisters Cakery, Montana Mike’s, Chicago’s Pizza, Express Car Wash, Valvoline Express, Applebee’s, Worland Cleaners, Strike Force Lanes, Papa John’s, McDonald’s, Greenfield Chocolates, White Castle and Firehouse Subs.
