To the editor:

In response to the article of March 1, “Carrier Corp. going where labor is cheap,” Carrier’s decision to close this plant was not a knee-jerk reaction to anything but a cog in a long-term strategic policy.

They are to be congratulated for a wise business choice, lowering cost by at least 60 percent. This, my friends, is the new business model. The price of stock must stay up, dividends must be paid, even at the expense of 1,400 jobs in Indianapolis.

Finally, when the people making these decisions go see St. Peter, I’m sure, in their minds, all they have to say is, “St. Peter, we all know there’s no right or wrong, only money.”
