Princeton’s star nears state shooting record

The state’s leading scorer in girls basketball is quickly closing in on the state’s career scoring record.

Princeton’s Jackie Young scored 38 points in the Tigers’ 64-29 win against Washington on Jan. 9 to bring her career total to 3,058 points.

She poured in 39 points on Jan. 6 in a 59-9 win against Vincennes Lincoln, which made her the second-best scorer in girls state history.

She is 25 points behind Shanna Zolman who scored 3,085 for Wawasee from 1998 and 2002.

Young is the second girl and fifth Indiana high school player to eclipse the 3,000-point mark in state history joining Damon Bailey (3,134), Shanna Zolman (3,085), Marion Pierce (3,019) and DeShaun Thomas (3,018).

Princeton (20-0), winner of 46 straight games, tops the state’s Class 3A coaches poll and Young leads the state at 38.4 points per game. The Tigers next game is tonight at Wood Memorial.
