Dragons handle Pike

No. 13 New Palestine moved to 5-1 in dual meets this season with a 57-12 win against Pike on Tuesday, winning 11 of 13 matches.

Jared Diep (106), Alec White (113), Noah Wright (126), C.J. Red (138), Jalyn Wallace (145), Jared Timberman (152), Eugene Starks (160), Logan Robinson (182), Cameron Shanahan (195), Landan Burton (220) and Hunter Holcombe (285) all won their respective weight class.

Cameron Diep (120) and Grant Saylor (171) both narrowly lost.

The team’s lone defeat came Dec. 9 to No. 10 Cathedral. New Palestine will host its own six-way dual at 9 a.m. Saturday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cougars tame Bears

Greenfield-Central’s girls basketball team improved to 7-3 on Tuesday with a 49-40 home win against Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Shelbyville.

The Cougars are now a perfect 3-0 in the HHC.

Junior forward Madison Wise led a balanced scoring attack with 19 points as four Greenfield-Central players scored near double digits. Junior guard Katie Helgason, freshman guard Katie Real and senior guard Savannah Girolami all finished with eight points.

The Cougars led 20-14 at halftime and used a 17-11 fourth quarter to earn the win, its second in a row.

Greenfield-Central’s JV team lost 56-19.

Lapel tops Royals

Eastern Hancock dropped to 8-3 this season after a one-point loss to Lapel on Tuesday.

The Royals trailed 25-23 at halftime but used a 17-13 third quarter to take a slight advantage. From there, Lapel edged Eastern Hancock by three points in the final quarter to seal the win.
