Local boy scout troop learn aboard ship

HANCOCK COUNTY — Boy Scout Troop 233 recently participated in a camping program aboard the World War II aircraft carrier Yorktown in the Charleston Harbor.

Troop members learned firsthand what it was like to be a shipmate as they toured the carrier, as well as the World War II submarine Clamagore and the World War II destroyer Laffey. Local students with the troop were also given the chance to take their meals aboard the ship.

The troop is sponsored by Bradley United Methodist Church, and Joe Calvert is the scout leader.
