County trio named to softball all-state teams
New Palestine had two players and Greenfield-Central added another as the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association released its 2015 softball all-state teams this week.
Adie Lorsung, an Indiana State commit, earned first-team all-state honors, while New Palestine teammate Issy Hoyt was included on the second-team. The duo helped lead the Dragons to a 24-4 record this season.
New Palestine tied for the Hoosier Heritage Conference title at 5-2 and pushed eventual state champion Center Grove to the brink in the sectional finals before losing 8-7 in nine innings.
Lorsung was named All-Hancock County after hitting .485 with 10 doubles, eight home runs, 34 runs scored and 56 RBIs this year. The senior infielder was selected as the 2014 Hancock County Player of Year.
Hoyt, a Purdue commit, carried a .511 batting average in her junior season with nine home runs, 15 doubles, 44 RBIs and 36 runs scored. She made the all-county team for a third consecutive year.
The 2015 Hancock County Player of the Year, Darcie Huber of Greenfield-Central, was placed on the ICGSA All-State third team. The two-way threat and Ball State recruit led the county in home runs with nine and hit .472.
In the pitcher’s circle, she amassed 20 wins, 211 strikeouts and had a 1.15 ERA. Her efforts propelled the Cougars to the Mt. Vernon Sectional championship, the program’s third in seven years.
Greenfield-Central also captured a share of the HHC crown, the first in program history.
