Tennis sectional pairings announced
The 41st Annual IHSAA Girls Tennis Tournament begins today. All four of Hancock County’s teams will play in the Mt. Vernon Sectional.
Today, New Palestine will battle Greenfield-Central, while county champion and host Mt. Vernon takes on Eastern Hancock. Both matches are set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
The winner of each match squares off at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Vernon to determine the sectional champion. The champion moves on to the North Central winner to face the winner of the Lawrence North sectional.
The Marauders won last year’s sectional title.
Hospital to raise money for scholarships
The Hancock Regional Hospital Foundation will host its 37th Annual Golf Benefit on June 12 at Hawk’s Tail of Greenfield.
The event will be Florida scramble-style with a shotgun start. Golfers registered for the morning round will tee off at 7:30 a.m. Afternoon parties tee off at 1 p.m. The cost per golfer is $95. The cost includes golf, a cart, meals, drinks and prizes.
Sponsorships are available at levels ranging from $250 for a hole sponsorship to a $2,000 signature level sponsorship, which includes a foursome and additional recognition. Registration and/or sponsorship payment must be received by June 5.
According to the foundation, since 1977, it has awarded more than 170 local students with $250,000 in scholarship funds to support their education in a medical field.

Cougars girls basketball program sets summer camp
The Greenfield-Central girls basketball camp for players going into kindergarten through eighth grade will be June 1 to 4 at the high school fieldhouse.
Cost is $40, which includes a basketball, T-shirt and instructional emphasis on fundamentals.
Camp times are 8 to 9 a.m. (kindergarten to Grade 2); 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. (Grades 3 to 5); and 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. (Grades 6 to 8).
