Mt. Comfort soccer signups underway

Upward Soccer, sponsored by the Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church, is accepting registrations through March 14.

The league is open to all boys and girls in Grades K to 6.

The final signup day is March 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church.

Greenfield-Central key athletic dates

The Greenfield-Central High School baseball team will host a bowling fundraiser March 14 at Strike Force Lanes in Greenfield. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with the event from 6 to 10 p.m. Cost is $25 per person. Lane sponsorships are available for $50.

Tryouts for the Greenfield-Central softball team will be conducted at 3:45 p.m. Monday in the Greenfield-Central Fieldhouse. Interested student-athletes must have a complete physical on file, along with all other paperwork turned into the athletics office before tryouts, to participate.

Greenfield-Central winter sports award programs will be conducted on the following dates: wrestling, Saturday, 6 p.m., Beeson’s Chatter Shack; cheerleading, March 16, 6:30 p.m., Cougar Meeting Room; swimming and diving, March 19, 6 p.m., cafeteria.

Big Ten Tournament: The 18th annual Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament will be March 11 through 15 at the United Center in Chicago. All 14 teams will play in the tournament, with the top four teams receiving first- and second-round byes into the quarterfinals.

Track: Las Vegas Motor Speedway (oval, 1.5 miles).

Race distance: 400.5 miles, 267 laps.

Last year: Brad Keselowski surged ahead on the final lap when Dale Earnhardt Jr. ran out of fuel. Keselowski also won the Xfinity race for his first weekend sweep.

Last week: Jimmie Johnson won at Atlanta Motor Speedway, pulling away after a restart with 13 laps to go for his 71st career victory. Kevin Harvick was second.

Fast facts: The race is the third of the year. Joey Logano won the season-opening Daytona 500. … Johnson has a record four victories in Las Vegas. … David Ragan is taking Kyle Busch’s spot in Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 18 Toyota. Busch broke his right leg and left foot in a wreck in the Xfinity race at Daytona. … Brian Vickers is returning to Michael Waltrip Racing’s No. 55 Toyota, three months after corrective heart surgery.
