Community education to hold 20th annual baseball, softball clinic

NEW PALESTINE — New Palestine High School’s Community Education Program, in conjunction with the New Palestine High School’s varsity baseball and softball teams, will be holding the 20th annual Boys and Girls Baseball and Softball Clinic for two consecutive Saturdays, beginning  Feb. 28 in the New Palestine High School gymnasium.

The clinic will be for athletes grades kindergarten through sixth. The boys clinic will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 9:45 a.m., while the girls clinic will run from 10 a.m. to noon.

The clinics will be conducted by New Palestine High School’s state champion varsity softball coach Ed Marcum and New Palestine High School’s varsity baseball coach Shawn Lyons, assisted by varsity and reserve coaches and players.

Each clinic will emphasize basic skills that include throwing, fielding, batting, catching, and base-running. Each athlete will be assigned to groups based on age and or skill level.

Each participant will receive a clinic T-shirt in addition to raffle prizes and special gifts. An autograph session with coaches and players will be conducted after the March 7 session.

Cost of the clinic is $25 per athlete, or two athletes can register together for $40.

Registration forms are now available from all three Southern Hancock elementary schools and in the main office at New Palestine High School.

Registration will end Feb. 27.

Competed registration forms must be returned to New Palestine High School no later than Feb. 27 in order for a player to receive a clinic T-shirt.
