New Palestine grad’s homer lifts Sycamores

New Palestine graduate and Indiana State junior Alexa Cavin hit her first career over-the-fence home run Saturday to lead the Sycamores to a 6-5 win against Ball State in the season-opening Music City Classic weekend tournament in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Sycamores went 2-2 in the tourney, with Cavin, an outfielder, keying the win against the Cardinals with a 2-for-3 effort that included three RBI, a walk and a run scored.

In the same tourney, Mt. Vernon graduate and University of Louisville transfer Rachel Houck collected her first hit for Ball State in a 5-4 win against IUPUI. Houck, a sophomore infielder, had a pinch-hit single. The Cardinals went 3-1 in the tourney.
