Jerry Martin Newkirk, 63, former New Castle resident, residing in Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 9, 1951, in Indianapolis, a son of Floyd Charles and Venus Leota Alley Newkirk.

He was a graduate of Lebanon High School in 1969, and International Barber College in 1970. He was a Barber in New Castle for 44 years. He owned JR’s Executive Hair Designs, barbered at the Indiana State Hospital in New Castle, and worked at the Indiana State Women’s Prison as a Corrections Officer.

His biggest devotions in life were God, his wife and children, helping others, and showing people how to see the funnier side of life. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Greenfield and a member of the Breakfast Optimist Club in New Castle.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Tina M. Newkirk (Clark); 3 children, Christopher D. (Brandi) Newkirk, Jerry Curtis (Nikki) Newkirk, and Victoria (Jacob) Lauderback; son-in law, Jeff Rose; daughter-in-law, Krista Newkirk (Russell); 9 grandchildren, Kallista, Carson, Dakota, Kaden, Camden, Khloe, Alexis, Andrew, and Casey; father, Floyd Charles Newkirk of Lebanon, Ind.; father-in-law, Marion (Bud) Clark of Kentucky; 4 brothers, Floyd Douglas (Jane) Newkirk of Indianapolis, Thomas (Susie) Newkirk of Rockport, Ind., Steven Newkirk of Lebanon, Ind., and Donald Abner of Lebanon, Ind.

He was preceded in death by, 1 daughter, Jennifer L. Rose; mother, Venus Leota Newkirk; mother-in-law, Peggy Clark (Sayre); and 3 brothers, Fredrick Newkirk, Clifford Newkirk, and Timothy Newkirk.

Visitation will be from Noon – 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, at Bethel Baptist Church in Greenfield, 1610 South State Street, Greenfield, Indiana 47362. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the church. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
