Colleen Akers, 84, of Greenfield, passed away on April 8, 2013. Born on April 7, 1929, in W. Va., she was the daughter of Luther L. and Ruby M. (Starkey) Smith. She married William Paul Akers on Dec. 24, 1963, and worked as a homemaker.
Colleen was a member of the Ivy Rebekah Lodge #281 in Morristown, the Morristown Rotary Club, and the Crazy Eight Bunco Club. She was also Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack #222.
Surviving her are her sons, P. Scott Akers of Fortville and Gary L. Leanhart of Sugarland, Texas; grandchildren, Natalie, Nathan, Sean, and Aaron; and five stepgrandchildren, Derrick, Danielle, Trey, Samantha and Nick.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, William Paul Akers; brother, Frank Smith; and sister, Barbara Elkin.
Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m., on Friday, April 12, 2013, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m., on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the mortuary. Burial will take place at Concord Cemetery.
