Lewis L. Schattler, 71, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at IU Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on Nov. 11, 1940, in Port Huron, Mich., he was the son of Laurence and Alice (Thomas) Schattler.

He graduated from Northern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in Math Education in 1966 and married Carol (Wallace) Schattler on August 7, 1965, in Marquette, Mich.

 Lewis worked as a math teacher for many years and had most recently worked in the office of Dr. Gabrielson. He was a member of the Hancock Reformed Baptist Church and enjoyed repairing antique clocks, gardening, listening to sports, and spending time with his grandchildren.

 Surviving him are his wife, Carol Schattler of Greenfield; daughter, Susan (John Abel) Peach of Greenfield; four grandchildren, Daniel, Rebecca, Wesley, and Garrett Peach; brother, Warren (Patricia) Schattler of Port Huron, Mich.; sisters-in-law; Audrey Meacham and Janet Borrett and their families; brothers-in-law, Roger Starrine and Gary Starrine and their families; nieces and nephews, Michelle, Heather, Aaron Schattler, Gwen, David and Brenda Borrett, Daniel, Regina, Kathy Meacham.

Preceding him in death were his parents and daughter, Sandra Lu Schattler.

 Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield with the funeral service immediately following at 6 p.m. Pastor Mark Judy will be officiating. A private burial will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Fishers, Ind.
