James T. Butcher Jr., age 63, of Fortville, Ind., passed away on Saturday evening, Oct. 22, 2011, at Anderson Speedway in Anderson. He was born on May 14, 1948, in Elwood, Ind. to the late James Butcher and Biatrice Helen (Davis) Butcher.

Jim retired in 2010 with over 30 years of service from Hancock County Highway Dept. as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Viet Nam War, a member of the Fortville American Legion Post # 391 and the Shirley Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife Judith (Leighton) (Ratliff) Butcher of Fortville, children; Jamie (Jerry) Ball of Danville, W.Va., Charles William Butcher of Madison, W.Va., Elizabeth (Randy) Valentine, Fortville, James Ratliff of Indianapolis., Douglas (Linda) Ratliff of Indianapolis, Michael Ratliff of Indianapolis; brother; William Butcher of Greensboro, Ind.; grandchildren Joanetta (Steven ) Lester of Ridgeville W.Va., Trae Messer of Danville, W.Va., Chris Tapia, Kansas City, Mo., Clinton (Brittany) Valentine, McCordsville, Ryan (Sheryl) Napier Raeford, N.C., Brandon Linn, Indianapolis; and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister; Brenda Moore and brother; Donald Butcher.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at Condo and Son Funeral home in Wilkinson, Ind. A Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson with a Military service.
