Daniel R. Strothmann, 81, a resident of Greenfield, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born Feb. 22, 1930, in Murphysboro, Ill. to the late Rev. William and Amalia (Ziegler) Strothmann.

Daniel served in the Navy from 1948-1950 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He retired in 1990 from Citizens Gas & Coke Utility where he worked as a service technician for 34 years. In 1999 he was the recipient of a Silver CHIP Award (Citizens Helping Indianapolis People). Daniel was a current member of Faith Lutheran Church and was previously a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he acted in various capacities, such as trustee and maintenance. He enjoyed hunting, camping and was a collectible enthusiast.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pollyanna (Heise) Strothmann of Greenfield; daughter, Rebecca (Robert) Kingry of New Palestine; sons, Randall (Maureen) Strothmann of Indianapolis, Richard Strothmann of Greenfield and Robert Strothmann of Worden, Ill.

Daniel was the youngest of 19 children; all siblings have preceded him in death except for a brother, Clem Strothmann and sister, Amy Blue.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2011, at Faith Lutheran Church, 200 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield with Pastor Wm. Daniel O’Connor officiating. Burial will follow with military graveside rites provided by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard at Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis. Friends may call at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, Greenfield on Sunday, May 1, 2011, from 1-5 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or The Lutheran Hour.
