Tiquest Jaquan Meyers, 24, Indianapolis, is the suspected triggerman from a Mother’s Day attempted murder shooting in Fortville. He was arrested and taken into custody late Wednesday, June 29.
HANCOCK COUNTY — Officials from the Fortville Police Department were able to finally corral the suspected shooter in the Fortville attempted murder incident on Mother’s Day, back in early May. The shooting, where multiple shots were fired, left one man critically injured when he was shot in the face.
Tiquest Jaquan Meyers, 24, 5100 block of E. 42nd Street, was taken into custody late Wednesday, June 29 by officials in Indianapolis. He was then brought to the Fortville Police Department station where chief Patrick Bratton transported Meyers to the Hancock County jail.
Meyers has been charged with a Level 1 felony count of attempted murder and a Level 5 felony count of criminal recklessness. The case was officially opened in Hancock County Superior Court 1 on June 17 when a warrant was issued for Meyers’ arrest by Magistrate Cody Coombs.
Meyers did not resist law enforcement after officials finally caught up with him in Indianapolis on Wednesday. Bratton said Meyers was taken into custody without incident.
Meyers is being held in the county jail under a “no bond” status until his initial hearing, which could come as early as today, Friday, July 1 in HCSC-1.
According to police reports, officials were called to the 400 block of Thomas Point Drive, Fortville on May 8 with reports of shots fired. Investigators took reports from witnesses who said a car pulled up to a house in the 300 block of Park Creek Lane and opened fire on an individual in the new subdivision.
Bratton said a man was shot on the right side of his face and was listed in critical condition but has since recovered from his injuries. According to the probable cause affidavit, when police arrived on the scene they asked the victim if he knew who shot him and the victim nodded his head “yes.”
An investigation by officials from the FPD linked the victim to Meyers, who was referred to as “Phats,” the affidavit said. Officials were able to find text messages between the two men as well as messages from the victim texting to another, “Phats shot me,” the affidavit states.
A witness told officials he observed a male (later identified as Meyers) park his vehicle outside the residence at the 300 block of Park Creek, the affidavit said. The witness then told officials, according to the report, that Myers exited his vehicle from the driver’s side door and began shooting seven to 10 rounds toward the residence where the victim was located in the 300 block of Park Creek. The witness stated three to four more gunshots were fired from the victim toward Meyers, followed by two to three more rounds shot by Meyers standing outside of his vehicle.
The affidavit stated the victim was shot in the right corner of his mouth and suffered a fractured jawbone surrounded by numerous bullet fragments.
Bratton said his officers did “an amazing” job on the case and credited officials from multiple agencies for helping them track Meyers and bring him in to address the charges.
“We are very grateful for the support we received from other agencies,” Bratton said. “If it wasn’t for everyone helping and teaming up, we would still be looking for him.”
Officials from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, McCordsville Police Department, Fisher’s Police Department and Lawrence Police Department assisted in the case as did the Marion County Warrant Squad and United States Marshals Service, Bratton said.
