Coleman takes seventh at Meet of Champions
On Saturday, Mt. Vernon’s Olivia Coleman placed seventh in two events during the 2015 Midwest Meet of Champions in Delaware, Ohio.
Competing for Team Indiana, Coleman finished seventh overall in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 2.25 inches and ran to a seventh-place ribbon in the 400-meter dash (57.99).
The multisport standout also joined with fellow Team Indiana All-Stars (Victoria Long, Ayanna Moody and Janae Moffitt) to secure a third-place finish in the 4×400-meter relay (3:53.82).
Coleman was invited to participate in the prestigious annual event after placing sixth in the long jump June 6 at the 2014-15 IHSAA Girls Track and Field State Finals in Bloomington. She ended her high school career as a two-time all-state competitor. She placed fourth in the 400 as a freshman with a 58-second run before tearing an anterior cruciate ligament tear, which slowed her progress until this spring.
Team Indiana was third in the standings. Ohio won the men and women team titles, and Michigan was second. The victory marks Ohio’s 15th outright title in the event’s history. The first Midwest Meet of Champions was conducted in 1974 and pits the best senior track and field athletes from Indiana, Michigan and Ohio against one another in a scored meet.
