HANCOCK COUNTY — An Indianapolis driver speeding along a county road was arrested after police caught up to him and found drugs in his vehicle, investigators said.
Demarco D. Minor, 30, Indianapolis, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 23, and charged with a Level 4 felony count of dealing cocaine; a Level 6 felony count of possession of cocaine and a Class A misdemeanor charge of driving while suspended.
The most serious charge against Minor carries a sentence of up to 12 years in prison.
According to a probable cause affidavit, a deputy with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department turned to pursue Minor after he was clocked going 66 mph in a 50 mph zone while traveling east in the 4500 block of West County Road 100N.
The deputy caught up with car, which had parked in a driveway on County Road 400W with the driver, Minor, standing outside, the report stated. Deputies discovered the license plate on the vehicle was expired and that Minor was driving with a suspended license. The affidavit noted there was a warrant for his arrest, for a driving-related issue, in Marion County.
Officials searched the vehicle and found an orange pill bottle with 29 different plastic baggies, a scale and another baggie that had a white rock-type substance that field-tested positive for cocaine, the affidavit said.
Minor had an initial appearance on Tuesday, Sept. 28, in Hancock County Circuit Court, where a $10,000 cash bond was set by Judge Scott Sirk. Minor is scheduled to be back in court in early November.
