Why are you running for office?
I have always had an interest in the clerk’s office. Having worked for a local law firm for 25 years, working with the clerk’s office is part of my everyday routine. With the switch to Odyssey case management system a few years ago and implementation of the e-filing system just one year ago, the manner in which documents are processed through the clerk, the courts and by the attorneys’ offices has changed significantly. I have the desire to apply my experience from the private side to the clerk/court side to accommodate the entire legal community in a more efficient way.
What makes you a qualified candidate for the position?
My 25 years of experience as a legal assistant is my most relatable qualification. I am familiar with the procedures of many areas of law filed as court cases. I draft the initial and interim pleadings filed with the courts, and draft proposed orders and judgments to be submitted for approval by the judge. I submit e-filings almost daily to the clerk for processing, not only in Hancock County but all surrounding counties and beyond. I am a devoted employee to the law firm where I work, and I will bring that same work ethic to the clerk’s office.
What are your top three goals for the position?
1. To maintain the chronological case summary accurately for each case.
2. To work with the judges to establish specific guidelines regarding the processing of the documents maintained by the clerk and the courts.
3. To be sure we are adequately utilizing the software relative to all functions of the clerk, including the election office and to make changes or address training issues as needed.
