Rollin J. Hawkins, age 85, of Indianapolis, passed away on April 19, 2011, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on May 15, 1925, in Fountaintown, he was the son of Ray S. Hawkins and Fern E. (Hauk) Rinker.

Rollin graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1943 and married Roberta L. Stroud on Dec. 3, 1949, in Indianapolis. He was the owner of Hawkins Steel Rule Dies in Indianapolis for 30 years. He also worked as a security guard at Castleton Square Mall until he was 80.

 Mr. Hawkins was kind, gentle, witty, and generous. He was a scientific thinker and a philosopher. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy who served in WWII.

 Surviving him are his wife, Roberta L. Hawkins of Indianapolis; children, Rollin David Hawkins of Seattle, Wash., Sheryl Denise Hawkins of Indianapolis, and Suzanne Danita & (Richard) Panyard of Greenfield; siblings, Marilyn Dixon, Ray S. Hawkins, Jr., and Patricia Morton; grandchildren, Alicia & (Craig) Relford, Kenneth & (Brianna) Archey, Warren Archey III, William Archey, Theodore Archey, and Carol & (Jon) Glockler; and great-grandchildren, Sydney and Malory Relford and Ragan Glockler. Preceding him in death were his parents; step-mother, Mildred Hawkins; sister, Phyllis Camp; and brother, Fred Rehfeldt.

 Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2011 at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Fountaintown Cemetery.
