Marjorie D. Riggs, 89, of Montpelier, Ind, passed away at 11:57 a.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Indiana University Health-Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. She was born on Saturday, Dec. 23, 1922, in Wells County, Ind.

Marjorie married Paul LaVere Riggs, Jr. on Feb. 14, 1948 in Van Buren. Paul passed away on Dec. 3, 1990. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Minnie B. (Betts) Phillips. Mrs. Riggs was a 1941 graduate of the Bluffton High School and had attended Ball State Teachers College in Muncie. She retired in 1983 from Corning Glass in Bluffton, as a computer operator and had formerly worked at R.C.A.

She held memberships in the Thursday Bridge Club, Montpelier Kiwanis, Business Professional Women of Bluffton for 50 years, The First United Methodist Church of Montpelier, Psi Iota Xi Sorority in Montpelier, Millard-Brown American Legion Post #156 in Montpelier and the Blackford County A.A.R.P. She had served on the Area 6 Council on Aging where she had been a board member, had served for Senator Birch Bye where she was the Blackford County Coordinator, the Blackford County Democrat Women's Club where she had served as President, had served on the Montpelier City Council for 12 years, the Montpelier Historical Society, the Blackford County Mental Health Board and the Montpelier Senior Citizens. Marjorie had also served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1945 as an Aviation Machinist's Mate. The Millard-Brown American Legion Post #156 will provide an Honor Guard at the cemetery.

Survivors include her son, Bill (Linda) Riggs of Greenfield; grandson, Wm. Eric Riggs; granddaughter, Shellie Renae (Brent) Jordan; and great- granddaughter, Casey Lynn Jordan; and great-grandson, Gabrial Tech Jordan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul LaVere Riggs, Jr.; father, Frank Phillips; mother, Minnie B. (Betts) Phillips; step-mother, Fern Phillips; step-father, R. W. Cook and son, Mike Riggs.

Arrangements are being handled by Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 West Windsor Street, Montpelier, IN, where family and friends may gather to share and remember from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012. A service to celebrate her life will be at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, with the Rev. David W. Chinn officiating and eulogy by Shellie Renae Jordan. Interment will be at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Montpelier, Ind.
