Esther (Barnhart) Cook, 96, of Pendleton, formerly of Wilkinson, passed away on Wednesday morning, July 4, 2012 at Rawlins House Health & Living Community in Pendleton. Mrs. Cook was born on June 3, 1916, in Onarga, Ill. the daughter of the late John N. and Nellie (Billinger) Barnhart.

Mrs. Cook graduated form Eden High School in 1934. A graduate of Ball State Teachers College in 1937, she had taught in New Palestine Elementary 3rd grade from 1937-1938, the Eden Elementary 1939-1943, Wilkinson Elementary 1943-1978, and retired from Wilkinson Elementary in 1978. She was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association, Shirley-Wilkinson United Methodist Church, Shirley Chapter Order of Eastern Star 492, the Grand Choir, Hancock Co Historical Society, Lilac Literary Club, Hancock Co. Hospital Guild, Golden Merrie Makers.

Survivors include nieces; Nondas (Ed) Butz, Jane (Ken) Tullis, Miriam (Mike) Hofer, nephews; Robert (Elizabeth) Barnhart, Bill (Jean) Barnhart, Richard (Juanita) Barnhart, James (Ruth) Barnhart, Donald (Carolyn) Barnhart, John (Vivian) Barnhart, and Jack (Pat) Barnhart.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald Cook in 1985, three brothers Clement, Dallas, and Cleatus Barnhart; two sisters, Velda Webster and Ruth Wisehart; nephews, Clement Jr. and Allen Barnhart.

 Friend may call at the funeral home on Sunday, July 8, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Funeral Service will be on Monday July 9, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Condo and Son Funeral home in Wilkinson. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery.
