Helen Laveta Byers, 87, a resident of Greenfield, passed away Sunday Dec. 9, 2012, at Hancock Regional Hospital, Greenfield. She was born Jan. 24, 1925, in Daviess County Indiana to the late Johnnie and Ina Mae (Hamilton) Stafford.
Helen worked for Allisons Transmission as a Machine Operator and belonged to the American Legion in Shelbyville.
She is survived by her sons, Gene (Cheryl) Byers of Greenfield, Gregory (Jill) Byers of Indianapolis; sister, Hazel Ruth Mallette of Clearwater, Fla.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Gilbert L. Byers; and sisters, O’Donna Fisher, Joyce Clements, and Katherin Beasley.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home-Pasco Chapel of Greenfield. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery.
