Mildred F. (Reed) Gumberts, 100, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield.  Born on April 30, 1912, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Cleveland and Hortense (Hiatt) Reed.

She married Jacob C. Gumberts in June of 1932, in Greenfield.

Mildred worked at Em-Roe’s in the uniform lettering department for over 10 years. She also volunteered at Community East Hospital in the sewing department for many years. She was a past matron of the Irvington Order of the Eastern Star, and she was a member of the Franklin Road Baptist Church. She loved spending time quilting and sewing.

Surviving Mildred are her daughter, Dolores (Norman) McFarland of Knightstown; son, Jacob (Kay) Gumberts of New Palestine; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Melanie) Hinkley, Jane (Michael) Gorman, Shawn McFarland, Andrew (Lorraine) McFarland, Brian (Tammy) Gumberts, Scott (Lisa) Gumberts, Gregory (Karen) Gumberts; 13 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Jacob Gumberts; granddaughter, Kelly Crockett; great-grandson, Jacob Gumberts; two sisters, Denzil Schatz and Clarice Cassidy.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, also at the mortuary with viewing beginning at 10 until the time of the service. Richard Thayer will be officiating. Entombment will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.

Mildred’s loved ones would like to extend their appreciation for the exceptional care she received from their extended family at Springhurst Health Campus.
