Rex Lane Schmidt, 59, of Elwood, Ind., passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014. He was born on July 4, 1954, in Greenfield, son of John H. and Vivienne Marcelle (Lane) Schmidt. He married Cheryl Christine (Van Hoorde) on Dec. 31, 1993.
Rex is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Schmidt of Elwood; children, Bobby Arney of Indianapolis, Teresa (Christopher) Whiteley of Winchester, Ky., Carl (Chasity) Schmidt of Fayetteville, N. C., David Arney of Avon, John (Michelle) Schmidt of Noblesville, Christina (William) Tunink of Cornell, Ill., and Andrea Schmidt of Westfield; sister, Inez (Bill) Prather of Longmont, Colorado; a sister-in-law; a cousin and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Vivienne Marcelle (Lane) Schmidt; brother, Jay Schmidt and infant brother, Wilson Howard Schmidt.
Visitation will be fom 4- 7 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Trinity Park United Methodist. Pastor Mike Manning will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
