Book club to discuss retired pastor’s work
McCORDSVILLE — A book club will gather at 7 p.m. Thursday at McCordsville United Methodist Church, 6247 W. Broadway.
The group is starting a new book for the new year, “How Hackleburg Became a 13-Pie Church” by Indiana author and retired pastor Riley B. Case. It is not necessary to have the book to participate in the book club, which meets from 7 to 8 p.m. the fourth Thursday of each month.
Dinner to raise money for Love INC
GREENFIELD — Love INC (In the Name of Christ) of Greater Hancock County is making plans for the second annual “Love Thy Neighbor” dinner, set for Feb. 13 at Adaggios.
Love INC engages Christians to help meet community needs by mobilizing local churches with the goal of transforming lives and communities in the name of Christ.
It works to build lasting community and church relationships, manage a database of volunteers, and coordinate all the church ministries to transform the lives of Hancock Countians. Supporter sustain the staff, facility and equipment necessary.

Former Colts punter to speak at breakfast
INDIANAPOLIS — Hunter Smith, who spent 10 of his 12 NFL seasons as the punter for the Indianapolis Colts, will share his story about the impact of prayer in his life as keynote speaker at this year’s Indiana Leadership Prayer Breakfast. The event is scheduled for 7:15 a.m. Feb. 18 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom, 140 W. Washington St.
Smith will address an audience of political, civic, business and faith leaders from across the state.
The prayer breakfast’s purpose is to pray for and with state leaders and the people they serve. The prayer breakfast began in 1969.
Smith played college football at Notre Dame and was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 1998. He earned a Super Bowl ring in Super Bowl XLI. In 2012, he published a book titled “The Jersey Effect: Beyond the World Championship” that looks into the hearts and minds of athletes who achieved Super Bowl success and examines the battles they faced. He is also a member of the Hunter Smith Band.
