GREENFIELD — The Indy Mega Adoption Event will be conducted this weekend at the state fairgrounds, and Hancock County’s Partners for Animal Welfare Society will be there with local cats ready to find a good home.

Volunteers are working this week and weekend to get the cats and all the supplies needed to the fairgrounds.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the south pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, 1202 E. 38th St., Indianapolis.

There will be about 1,000 pets at the event looking to find their forever homes.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. The adoption fee is $30.

Attendees can adopt cats or dogs for $30; the animals are spayed or neutered, microchipped and are up to date on all required vaccines.

2. It’s a same-day adoption event.

Those who choose to adopt a pet Saturday or Sunday will be able to take their new furry friend home that day. If you plan adopt, come prepared. Having a cat carrier or dog leash and collar is recommended, but vendors will have cardboard cat carriers and temporary dog leashes available.

3. There are plenty of choices.

More than 23 area animal organizations, including PAWS, will be at the event, and more than 1,000 pets will be available for adoption. As pets are adopted, organizers expect organizations will bring in more animals.
