Tickets available for sectional title contest

Advance sale tickets are available in the New Palestine athletics office for Friday night’s Class 5A Sectional 14 championship game at Columbus East High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Tickets are $6 and available to purchase until 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Friday’s game pits No. 1 New Palestine against No. 2 Columbus East. The meeting marks the third straight year New Palestine and Columbus East will clash with a championship on the line.

New Palestine defeated Columbus East 30-28 in the 4A semistate championship en route to winning it’s first state title last year. In 2013, Columbus East won 49-14 in the semistate title game before clinching the 4A state championship.

Local soccer players anchor All-HHC team

Mt. Vernon, New Palestine and Greenfield-Central earned a combined 14 spots on the 2015 boys soccer All-Hoosier Heritage Conference team.

The Marauders had five players selected to the team. The Dragons, which finished the regular season as co-HHC champions with Mt. Vernon, also received five spots.

Mt. Vernon defeated New Palestine 3-0 in the Class 2A Sectional 23 title match to collect its first championship since 2012.

All Pro Dad event at Weston Elementary

An All Pro Dad event will be conducted at 6:45 a.m. Nov. 6 at Weston Elementary School in Greenfield.

Dad’s and Colts spokesman Josh Bleill will be the keynote speaker for the event, which will take place in the Weston Cafeteria.

The event is free and will give dads and kids a before-school opportunity to enjoy breakfast and a 45-minute program centered on fatherhood and family topics.

The program is designed to give fathers some tips and resources to help become the best dads they can be and assist in strengthening their relationships with their kids and families.
