McCORDSVILLE — The man accused of shooting a woman in the foot during a domestic dispute Monday has been apprehended and officially charged with several felonies, the McCordsville Police Department said.

Jaden Robinson, 19, McCordsville, was taken to the Hancock County Jail Wednesday afternoon, where he’s facing a Level 5 felony count of domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon; a Level 6 felony count of criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon; and a Level 6 felony count of pointing a firearm at another.

Robinson was apprehended Wednesday by officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. He was taken into custody near 42nd Street and Post Road before being transferred into the custody of the McCordsville Police Department without incident, detective Aaron Watts said.

Robinson had been at-large since the shooting was reported Monday. He was at the home in the 8600 block of North Crestview Trail, McCordsville, around 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, when police first investigated reports of shots fired.

But as police investigated the report, Robinson and a woman at the scene told officials no shooting had occurred. A caller who reported the incident had said another woman left the house in a car shortly after a shot was fired, but police couldn’t locate her or find any evidence that a crime had been committed, police said.

Robinson told police he had argued with the woman and that she had left before police arrived, a probable cause affidavit said. Robinson also told police the woman had struck him in the face and that he didn’t want charges filed.

The caller who first reported the incident later told police she had heard Robinson and the woman arguing. Shortly thereafter, she heard a loud pop and saw the woman on the ground. The witness told police it seemed the two women had been arguing over Robinson, according to the affidavit.

Around 5 p.m. Monday, officials in McCordsville received word from Indianapolis Metropolitan Police that a woman was seeking treatment at Eskenazi Hospital for a gunshot wound to the foot. Police linked the victim to the McCordsville address.

When police returned to the home, Robinson was gone, the affidavit said.

When officials interviewed the victim at the hospital, she told police she had gone to see Robinson, who was acting oddly and wouldn’t let her in the house, the affidavit said. The victim told police she realized another woman was inside, and a fight ensued.

The victim admitted to slapping Robinson in the neck and said he punched her several times in the chest, the affidavit said.

Robinson then went inside and returned with a semi-automatic handgun, the victim told police, according to the affidavit.

The victim also told police Robinson at first pointed the gun at her head. Robinson then lowered the gun toward her leg and fired a shot, the affidavit said. The victim told police she felt the shot hit her foot and she fell to the ground before making it to her vehicle and leaving the scene.

Officers later found a .45 caliber shell casing in the shrubbery where the victim indicated the shooting took place, the affidavit said. Police also found an open box of .45 caliber ammunition when they searched the house.

Officials pinged Robinson’s cell phone to the area near where he was apprehended Wednesday in Indianapolis. According to the affidavit, he is the father of the victim’s 4-month-old child.
