Area athletes earn postseason honors
Hancock County athletes were well-represented on all-conference, all-district and all-state teams in fall sports.
Tennis
Three singles players and two doubles duos from Hancock County teams were named all-Hoosier Heritage Conference.
New Palestine’s Matthew True and Carson Gavin, along with Mt. Vernon’s J.D. Cohee, earned all-HHC accolades. Mt. Vernon’s No. 1 doubles team of Peyton Meadors and Brayden Browning were honors, as was New Palestine’s top doubles duo of Ben Blachly and Dane Reid.
All four Dragons were named all-district and earned honorable mention all-state as well. True was named the Hancock County Player of the Year.
Volleyball
Three county volleyball players earned all-HHC honors, with one also making the all-district team.
Named to the all-HHC team were Mt. Vernon’s Victoria Bulmahn, New Palestine’s Lydia Jones and Greenfield-Central’s Ava Antic.
Bulmahn was named all-district, as was chosen as the Hancock County Player of the Year.
Boys soccer
Mt. Vernon led the way with five all-HHC selections, while conference champion Greenfield-Central had four and New Palestine had a pair.
The Marauders selections were Tylin Broaders, Brandon Johnson, Jon Hanson, Jacob Knepper and Noah Whitehouse. Cougars selected were Zack Bell, Caleb Mundell, Tyler Murphy and Brantley Kuntz. Adam Hunt and Luke Gohmann were the Dragons selected.
Greenfield-Central coach Bobby Holden was naemd HHC Coach of the Year. Bell and Broaders were first-team all-district. Mundell and Hunt were second-team all-district.
Bell was named the Hancock County Player of the Year.
Girls soccer
Mt. Vernon also led the girls honors on the all-HHC team with five selections, while New Palestine and Greenfield-Central each had four.
Alexi Hardie, Cleo Mills, Maddie Swingle, Katie Gawrys and Riley Hurst were the Marauders earning all-conference. Lucy Brand, Kelsi McLaughlin, Anne Marie DeKeyser and Rita Aguye-Cots were the Cougars selected, and Olivia Lambdin, Victoria Crowder, Maddy Miller and Grace Voelz were the Dragons chosen.
Mt. Vernon’s Steve Williams was named HHC Coach of the Year. Hardie and Brand were named first-team all-district, and Mills and Lambdin were second-team all-district.
Brand was named the Hancock County Player of the Year.
