Dragons outlast Marauders

New Palestine faced off with Mt. Vernon on Tuesday, picking up a hard-fought 3-2 win at home.

The Dragons’ Matthew True topped Mt. Vernon’s J.D. Cohee 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, New Palestine’s Carson Gavin posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Chris Hays to give the Dragons a second point.

The Marauders picked up the next two points, getting a win at No. 2 doubles as Jackson Dunlavy and Sam Frye bested New Palestine’s Jeremy Wagoner and Ethan Haeberle 6-4, 6-3. Sam McCarty then took the win against Trevor Darley at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-4.

With the match hanging in the balance, Mt. Vernon’s Peyton Meadors and Braeden Browning took the first set at No. 1 doubles against Dane Reid and Ben Blachly. The Dragons duo rebounded, though, completing a comeback with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory. 

Tri tops Royals

Eastern Hancock dropped a home match Tuesday against Tri, falling 5-0 to the visitors.

The Royals got a first-set win from Ian White at No. 2 singles in the closest match of the night but eventually fell 6-2, 2-6, 1-6. The Royals are now 3-7 on the season.

Cougars fall to Batesville

Greenfield-Central lost to Batesville on Tuesday night, 4-1.

The win for the Cougars came from No. 3 singles player Robbie Dye. Dye looked good in his second match at singles this year, winning 6-4, 6-4.

Marauders drop match

Mt. Vernon fell to a talented Lawrence Central team Tuesday by a score of 4-1.

Noah Whitehouse recorded 10 saves on the night and kept the score close. Aden Cappelletti scored the lone goal assisted by Brandon Johnson. The team hosts their final conference opponent, Pendleton Heights, tonight.

Dragons fall to Center Grove

New Palestine dropped a 7-0 decision Tuesday evening to No. 9 Center Grove at home.

The Dragons are now 5-7-1 on the season.
