Man faces rape, battery charges

McCORDSVILLE — A McCordsville man was arrested this week amid allegations he sexually assaulted a woman, according to court documents.

Lawrence Horstman, 41, was arrested this week on charges of rape, criminal confinement and domestic battery.

A woman went to the McCordsville Police Department on Tuesday morning to report she’d been abused by Horstman the night before, records show.

She said she was at Horstman’s home late Monday, and the man began to physically and verbally abuse her, court documents state. The abuse eventually became sexual in nature, when Horstman forced himself on her, the woman said, according to court documents.

At one point, the woman said Horstman yelled at her in a threatening way, as if daring her to report the crime to police. The man remarked that no one would believe what she said because she didn’t have any marks on her body as evidence of the abuse, she told police, according to court documents.

The woman said Horstman shouted at her and hit her in the face twice before forcing himself on her, court documents state.

There were children in the home at the time of the incident, the woman told police.

Investigators photographed the area of the woman’s face where she said Horstman struck her. The images showed what appeared to be bruising near the woman’s right temple, court documents state.

Horstman was arrested by police Wednesday.

The charges he faces are: one Level 3 felony count of rape; one Level 6 felony count of criminal confinement; and one Level 6 felony count of domestic battery in the presence of a child.

He has pleaded not guilty to the allegations and was released from jail on $10,000 cash bond, records show. He’s been ordered not to have any contact with the alleged victim.
