GREENFIELD — A Noblesville woman who overdosed on fentanyl-laced heroin in front of her children will spend 18 months on probation after pleading guilty to neglect, records show.

Jinelle M. Broaddus, 33, 555 Kings Lane, Apartment E, Noblesville, recently pleaded guilty to one Level 6 felony count of neglect of a dependent, which prosecutors filed against her earlier this year.

Broaddus was at a relative’s home in McCordsville in May with her two kids when the overdose occurred, according to court document.

She told police she’d been stressed, and her friend offered her heroin to help her feel better, court documents state. She said she snorted the drugs using a rolled up dollar bill, and only used enough to “take the edge off, but not to get high,” court documents state.

She said she’d gotten the drugs from a friend, who was also at the home that day and suffered an overdose, court documents state.

She told police she didn’t know the heroin she was using was laced with fentanyl — a synthetic opioid-based painkiller that is said to be 50 times more potent than morphine.

Broaddus and her friend regained consciousness only after paramedics administered Narcan, an overdose-reversing drug, court documents state. Both were transported to a hospital for further care.

Police contacted the Indiana Department of Child Services, who took over care of Broaddus’s two children.

Prosecutors filed two counts of neglect of a dependent against Broaddus shortly after the incident.

She pleaded guilty to one count. The other was dismissed by prosecutors as part of a plea agreement, records show.
