Man arrested after threatening friend, police

GREENFIELD — A Greenfield man faces a charge of intimidation after he threatened to kill his friend and the police officers who came to break up their fight — all in front of his young son.

Joshua Fivecoat, 35, 218 E. Grant St., Apartment 5, Greenfield, is locked in the Hancock County Jail without bond on charges of intimidation and resisting law enforcement. He appeared in court Monday morning and pleaded not guilty to the one felony and one misdemeanor he faces, records show.

A friend of Fivecoat’s called 911 late Thursday after finding Fivecoat passed out, drunk, inside his Grant Street apartment. While police headed to the home to help, Fivecoat awoke and began screaming at the friend, making threats to harm the woman and the officers who were responding to the scene, according to court documents.

Fivecoat shouted, “I’m going to kill you for this” several times, aggressively at the friend. He also told the woman he would kill any police officers who arrived at his home, court documents state.

Fivecoat’s young son was sitting on a couch in the apartment’s living room and could hear his father, police said.

The man’s friend told police Fivecoat woke up and accused her of stealing money from him, and she believed he was saying he’d kill her for taking his money, court documents state.

Fivecoat was aggressive with the Greenfield Police Department officers who responded to his home, court documents state.

Police said the man tried to kick them and spit on them, and he would not listen to their commands. It took several officers to restrain him so he could be locked in handcuffs, court documents state.

Fivecoat was taken to Hancock Regional Hospital to be examined by doctors and nurses to ensure he hadn’t consumed anything dangerous, court documents state.

Fivecoat was aggressive with hospital staff, as well, police said. Doctors used leg straps to restrain him to his hospital bed, court documents state.

Once he calmed down, he was released and taken to the jail. He remained there at press time.

Fivecoat faces one Level 6 felony count of intimidation and one Class A misdemeanor of resisting law enforcement. He pleaded not guilty to both accusations Monday, records show.

The Level 6 felony count he faces carries a maximum penalty of 2 ½ years in prison. The Class A misdemeanor he faces carries a maximum penalty of 180 days in jail.
