Gladys Marie (King) Carmichael, 96, of Greenfield, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 at Springhurst Health Campus. She was born on December 3, 1921 in Indianapolis as the daughter of Orville and Mahala (Hawkins) King.

She graduated from Mt. Comfort High School in 1940 and married Bryan Carmichael on May 30, 1941 in Greenfield. They were married 50 years before he passed in June 1991.

Gladys was a homemaker and the wife of a farmer; she loved the farming life and her family. She was a member of the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church as well as the Kennard Brother and Sisterhood. She enjoyed playing Uno and checkers, cooking, baking, fishing, and gardening.

She is survived by Anita (Raymond) Dusang of Greenfield, IN; Dwight (Eleonore) Carmichael of Markleville, IN; Dennis (Joan) Carmichael of Knightstown, IN; and Marsha (Paul) Veach of Shirley, IN; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Mahala King; a stepfather, Elmer Wallace; husband, Bryan Carmichael; a sister, Marjorie Walker; and son-in-law, Raymond Dusang.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 2:00 p.m. also at the mortuary. Pastor Steve Brackney will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
