FORTVILLE – Two men police believe broke into a Fortville grocery store overnight late last week and stole lottery tickets, were arrested Wednesday as they tried to cash in on their winnings.

Scott Morris, 34, of Fortville, and William Loder, 26, of Greenfield, remained in the Hancock County Jail without bond, each facing preliminary charges of burglary and theft, records show.

Police say the two men broke into Strough’s Supermarket in Fortville, forcing their way through a back door, and took several thousand dollars’ worth of Hoosier Lottery tickets.

Fortville Police Department detectives were called to investigate and have been working the case for a week. Wednesday, they learned two men were trying to cash in those stolen lottery tickets, officials said.

Morris and Loder were arrested separately, a few hours apart, records show.

Prosecutors were working Thursday at press time to finalize what criminal counts would be filed against the men.
