GREENFIELD — Greenfield firefighters are thanking the community for its generosity during the annual Fill the Boot campaign, which collected thousands of dollars for charity.

Each year, firefighters take up posts around the city with boots in hand asking for passing drivers to toss in some spare change to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

In 2017, firefighters collected $13,000 — about $5,000 more than the 2016 event — in cash and coins.

All the money helps Hoosiers with muscular dystrophy and other life-threatening muscular diseases and supports clinics at Riley Hospital for Children and the Indiana University Health Neuroscience Center in Indianapolis along with summer camps for kids with muscle diseases.
