After-school program set to start soon

MT. COMFORT — The SonShine Kids after-school program is scheduled to begin Sept. 7 at Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church, 3179 N. County Road 600W.

The program meets on Thursdays when Mt. Vernon Community School Corp. is in session.

Students in first through fifth grades will be offered enrichment classes of art, music, nature and drama.

An open house is planned for Thursday, Aug. 31, at the church.

Applications are available at the Mt. Comfort Elementary School front office and at the church office.

Festival coming to Heather Hills

CUMBERLAND — Heather Hills Baptist Church’s annual community Family Fun Festival is set for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 26) at the church, 1421 N. German Church Road, Indianapolis. This is a free event.

Festival to feature bluegrass band

McCORDSVILLE — The Lord’s Acre Family Festival runs from 4 to 9 p.m. Sept. 8 and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 9 at McCordsville United Methodist Church, 6247 W. Broadway.

Vendor booths and a fish fry will be open both days.

The Banister Family Bluegrass Band will play from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 8.

Festivities on Sept. 9 include a bounce house, Silly Safaris show, silent auction and live music from local artists.

Weather permitting, worship Sept. 10 will take place outside under the festival tent at 9:30 a.m.

Quartet performing at Mt. Lebanon

GREENFIELD — Blessed Truth Gospel Quartet will perform during part of the worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 17 at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, 3447 S. State Road 9, Greenfield.

Blessed Truth is made up of Richard Luke from Greenfield, Norm Sill from Lebanon, Ralph Calvert of Avon and Jim Thompson of Zionsville.

An offering will be taken at the close of the service.

Sample chili recipes and vote on favorite

GREENFIELD — A chili cookoff is set for 5 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at Amity United Methodist Church, 6042 W. County Road 100N.

Several types of chili will be available to sample before voting on a favorite. Cheese sandwiches will be served for those who are not into chili. Side dishes and desserts will also be served.

A free-will offering will be accepted.

Event to help feed hungry

FORTVILLE — Harvest of Talents is set for 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at Fortville Christian Church, 9450 N. County Road 200W, Fortville.

Visitors can shop from various craft and decor items. A silent auction will feature donations from local businesses, such as an oil change or restaurant gift certificates.

All money raised will go to hunger relief programs through International Disaster Emergency Service.

Food available for donations includes biscuits and gravy at 9 a.m., walking tacos at 10:30 a.m., and pulled pork sandwiches from noon to 1:30 p.m.

A live auction begins at 2 p.m. Items available for bidding include an autographed Indianapolis Colts football, a queen-size handmade quilt, a quilting frame, an antique trunk, two antique desks, a one-night hotel stay and breakfast for two, a set of china, an American flag made from pallets, six collector dolls, two handmade wooden trivets, Brookie’s Cookies, several handmade signs and paintings, and several other items.

Group offers grief support

NEW PALESTINE — A new Griefshare support group will begin at Zion Lutheran Church with a night of orientation at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, 6513 W. County Road 300S. Regular sessions begin at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 31.

Griefshare is a weekly time to gather with others to navigate through the waters of grief. If you have experienced the loss of a loved one, you are welcome to join.
