GREENFIELD
Merrill “Med” Guy Hinton, Jr., 90, of Greenfield, passed away August 6, 2017, at Springhurst Health Campus. He was born on November 27, 1926 in Indianapolis as the son of Merrill Guy Hinton, Sr. and Addie Leola (Denny) Hinton.
In 1944, he graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis. Med received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, attended General Motors Institute, and received his Law Degree from the University of West Los Angeles. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He worked for the Allison Division of General Motors before moving to California. In California, he worked for Marquardt Aircraft Company and the Aerospace Corporation of California. He was an attorney and member of the State Bar of California, as well as a U.S. Patent Attorney. On September 24, 1985, Med married Margaret Joanne Jo (Abney) Hinton and had a loving and wonderful life, forming a new family with their three children each.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Hinton; son, Merrill Guy (Ena) Hinton III; stepson, John M. (Candace) Boothby; stepdaughter, Nikki Lynn Mattingly; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold and Donald Hinton; sister, Vivian L. Guire; daughters, Vicki S. McCarl and Kathy M. Hinton; son-in-law, John V. Mattingly; and stepson, Mark W. Boothby.
Visitation will be held on Thursday August 10, 2017, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. Per Med’s wishes, there will be a private family committal at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Med may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
