Students honored at board meeting; Trustees recognize Mt. Vernon ‘Hall of Fame’ recipients

McCORDSVILLE — At the June School Board of Trustees meeting, the school board recognized students who have excelled in their academic careers during the 2016-17 school year.

The School Board Scholars and their families were treated to a dinner reception prior to receiving their award. The students who were recognized for their outstanding achievement in the “Academic Hall of Fame” were announced during the annual board meeting for their work ethic, intelligence and determination to excel in academics.

Academic Hall of Fame honorees were: Landon Willis (spelling bee champion), Evie Skene (geography bee champion), Tyler Dover (addition T-race champion), Savannah Jouppi (multiplication T-race champion), Fortville Elementary; Reagan Britt (spelling bee champion), Brooklyn Whirls (geography bee champion), Elise Gawrys (addition T-race champion), Kylie Huczko, (multiplication T-race champion), Mt. Comfort Elementary; Christopher Downs and Taylen Jolley (co-spelling bee champions), Adam Koon (addition T-race champion), Natalie Sparks (multiplication T-race champion), McCordsville Elementary; Seth Morrison (spelling bee champion), Colin Brown (geography bee champion), Mt. Vernon Middle School; Nathan Grandstaff (valedictorian and National Merit Finalist), Kailan Ratekin (salutatorian), Mt. Vernon High School.
