Jim R. Hauk, 85, of Greenfield, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born on February 16, 1932, in Shelbyville, as the son of Robert W.E. and Lizzie Belle (Mays) Hauk.

He graduated from Shelbyville High School. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Jim married Freda M. (Dishong) on July 8, 1960.

He retired from Best Lock Corporation after 35 years of service. Jim attended The Church of the Nazarene, where he actively served. He loved his family and grandchildren, reading the Bible, gardening, and bird watching. Anyone who knew Jim knew that he was a hardworking man with a soft heart and gentle spirit.

Jim is survived by his wife, Freda Hauk of Greenfield; daughters, Debbie (John) Hood of Anderson, Judy (Chris) Grimes of Greenfield, and Cindy Montgomery of Greenfield; brother, Donald Hauk of Indianapolis; six grandchildren, Anna, Ben and Jonathan Grimes and Emily, Joshua and Timothy Montgomery. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert Hauk, Richard Hauk, and Jack Hauk.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 pm. on Saturday, July 8, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 1 p.m. Pastor David Huff will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
